CLARE ALLAN WAS THE WINNER OF THE INAUGURAL ORANGE SHORT STORY PRIZE IN 2002. HER FIRST NOVEL, POPPY SHAKESPEARE, WAS PUBLISHED IN 2006 TO WIDESPREAD CRITICAL ACCLAIM. IT WAS SHORTLISTED FOR THE GUARDIAN FIRST BOOK AWARD, THE ORANGE PRIZE FOR NEW WRITERS AND THE MIND BOOK OF THE YEAR AND LONGLISTED FOR THE ORANGE PRIZE FOR FICTION.
