Clare Allan is the author of Poppy Shakespeare, which was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, the Orange Prize for New Writers, and the Mind Book of the Year. The Channel 4 adaptation of Poppy Shakespeare, starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Naomie Harris, went on to win a BAFTA.
Clare's column 'It's My Life', on matters relating to mental health, ran in the Guardian from 2006 to 2018, and she has also written for the New York Times, the Telegraph, the Sunday Times, the Independent and others.
For nine years, Clare taught on City, University of London's groundbreaking MA in novel writing, successfully guiding dozens of students through to the completion of their novels and seeing City achieve the highest publication rate of any Creative Writing MA in the UK.
